When you get a couple as laid back and genuine as Leslie and Chuck you do a happy dance... and happily stand on a ladder on the rooftop of a 28th floor venue even though you're terrified of heights just to capture some gorgeous portraits with the skyline view. Although I don't think I was the only one willing to do just about anything for this sweet couple. Leslie and Chuck were surrounded by friends that have supported their journey and it truly felt like one big family. Their wedding day was filled with touches that showcased their personalities, including their vows, the gorgeous illustrations on their paper goods and signage by Leslie, and of course the fun sunglasses for all the guests. The day flew by but Leslie and Chuck made sure to soak in each moment and even made time for a few last portraits at night while guests gathered to send them off into married life with sparklers!
Any time that I suggest some liquid encouragement to my couple that's a little nervous about their engagement session and the response is "we have already started", I know we'll get along just fine. Fireball anyone? We started Melody and Andreu's session at their home
in Marietta and it is beautiful! A front porch perfect for rocking and sipping a nightcap is just the start of its charm. We walked around their neighborhood and eventually found our way to Marietta Square and by their first date location! Melody and Andreu's story starts at Home Depot where they work. As Andreu said, "I finally wore her down" and now they've got a wedding to plan! I had so much fun with these two - they laugh easily and didn't mind any of my shenanigans. Melody and Andreu- thank you so much for spending your evening with me! I hope y'all had a fabulous date night after I left and I can't wait for the big day!!! Eleanor and Blair are the most fun-loving, genuine people you could ever meet. I first met them at Eleanor's childhood home and it felt like a conversation with long time friends. Even Mila tagged along for their engagement session so we're basically family now. I had the privilege of photographing their wedding at All Saints' Episcopal Church and celebrating with all their family and friends for their epic party at the Capital City Club! There were so many special details that made this day so personal for Eleanor and Blair. Eleanor wore Blair's grandmother's jewelry and had a piece of her late mom's dress sewn at the bottom of hers. Even some of the floral vases were from their home. It was all so thoughtfully incorporated to represent their loved ones. My favorite part however was the surprise Eleanor's dad, Rick, had for them at the end of the night - a stunning getaway car! They were all set to exit in a golf cart but the look on their faces when they saw the vintage car was priceless! It was the perfect end to an already spectacular day.
When Grace said we would start their engagement session at Jack's house, I was basically expecting to just meet there and then hit the road to the Duck Pond. I mean what bachelor pad is usually gram-worthy? Little did I know that Jack's mom and grandma passed down a green thumb. Beautiful orchids lined the window in the kitchen and jasmine crept up the wall in the perfectly groomed backyard. I loved that we were able to capture images of Grace and Jack at the place they will call home as newlyweds! After an outfit change we headed to the Duck Pond which is also a special place for Grace as it's across the street from her old house! There we made friends with the ducks... well Jack tried, I just scared the poor thing. Grace also got in a few twirls (apparently Jack the Renaissance Man is quite the dancer) before the sun went down. Grace and Jack - thank you SO much for spending your evening frolicking with the ducks and rolling in the grass with me. Y'all are SO much fun and I cannot wait for September!
I've traveled coast to coast for engagement sessions and Charleston is always a favorite! It doesn't hurt when your couple treats you to tacos and margaritas after your shoot! Margaret and Cody have been tearing up dance floors at a lot of my weddings, including Margaret's sister Mary Catherine, but now it's their turn and I could not be more excited for them! Margaret and Cody had done their homework and did a tour-de-Charleston the day before their shoot to pick out a few spots and it paid off! We were able to hit all the highlights of downtown Charleston but also explore some hidden gems. I love that these two don't take themselves too seriously and were up for playing my game I call "ok last one" ...which is fun because it's never the last one. We did finally end the night on the water before heading to Ruru's Taqueria and celebrating a successful shoot! Margaret and Cody - thank you both for opening up your schedules for some Tuesday night fun and showing me your favorite parts of your new city! Can't wait for June!!
