Oh how I love the West Coast. Every time we travel there we question why we don't stay permanently!! Morgan and I had the opportunity to visit California for a bit of a work-cation (thanks, Madeline and Ben!!!!) and it also happened to fall on our anniversary! I could not think of a better way to celebrate 4 years together than to explore more of California's gorgeous coastline and have the chance to hang out with one of my couples! Our trip began in Huntington Beach for Madeline and Ben's engagement session. Morgan and I spent the morning before the shoot hanging out on the pier just people/surfer watching. It really is a completely different lifestyle in Southern California and we LOVED it! Madeline and Ben graciously hosted us during our time in the Huntington Beach area and we were so sad to leave but excited to venture to La Jolla as they had raved about it!
I had the pleasure of photographing the most charming southern couple, complete with a seersucker suit and white eyelet dress, for their engagement last week!! Madeline and David met working at Ernst & Young as accountants and I loved getting to hear their engagement story told from both sides! That is honestly my favorite part of the engagement session - getting to know my couples! These two are so smitten with each other it was like I could have just followed them around Piedmont Park and captured everything they did! Madeline and David were SUCH troopers as we trekked around the park. It was a super hot and humid day, even for August. Thankfully they looked flawless despite the heat and just enjoyed their time together in their busy season! Madeline and David - I cannot wait for your wedding next year! Thanks for braving the sweat-fest with me!!!
This photographer got to check an item off the photography bucket list - a destination shoot in California!! Madeline and Ben have two dogs and if you follow my work, you know that I am always in favor of furbabies joining in for a shoot! Since they live in California, it meant I would just have to come to them if Foster and Bruce were going to be included. When Madeline and I Skyped to discuss the possibility of me coming to their new home in Huntington Beach, I'm pretty sure I squealed! It's always fun to shoot in new places but the gorgeous coastline in Southern California is just incredible, not to mention the perfect weather and stunning light! Morgan decided that I needed an assistant for this shoot so we booked our flights and counted down for the big trip!
Each year my family tries to get together for a week at Myrtle Beach. My cousins and I have grown up going there and it's so fun to continue the tradition as our family grows with spouses and babies and babies that aren't babies anymore! This year we were missing a few folks, but it was good to see everyone that could make it! Our week is usually filled with a LOT of seafood, beach time, fishing, pool time and naps, and it's absolutely the most relaxing and rejuvenating trip. As life gets busier the older we get, we managed to miss a few years in between our vacations together and in that time Sarah and Mark added a new baby to the mix! I was so excited to FINALLY meet sweet Declan! I took Sarah and Mark's engagement pictures on the beach three years ago so it was so fun to be able to photograph them again as a new family of three. The Bishop family joined in on the fun and it was so cute to capture pictures of the new generation of cousins! I also somehow convinced my parents to let me take their portraits on the beach. They got the giggles and it's always fun to seem them together as Janet and Dave rather than Mom and Dad. Enjoy a few favorites from the craziness that is the Mabie family vacation!
Molly and Parker's wedding day at the Foundry at Puritan Mill was filled with love and a few surprises along the way... an appearance by Georgia Tech's awesome mascot, Buzz, and a late night treat with the Waffle House food truck just to name a few! Needless to say, I think I left their wedding day about 10 lbs heavier. True to Atlanta in July form, it was quite a hot day that ended with rain showers. Thankfully the rain held off until their ceremony when guests were already inside and ready to celebrate these newlyweds!
