You know that time period between Christmas and New Year when you don't know what day it is or what you're supposed to be doing? For me it is a time to recharge and reflect back on the year... and stay in my pajamas while soaking up the last few days of decorations and twinkle lights. 2017 was a jam-packed and wonderful year for JDP - 25 weddings, a mini session marathon benefitting the Atlanta Humane Society, countless hours in the car, two winter storms, three rainy days, two wedding dogs, eight church weddings, six outdoor ceremonies, almost 300 friends standing beside the bride and groom, and thousands of images delivered to to be enjoyed by the countless family and friends that made these wedding days so much fun.
I had the honor and privilege of capturing and celebrating with Alyssa and Austin on their snowy wedding day at Montaluce Winery in North Georgia. They were my very last couple of 2017 and it was filled with enough joy to carry me well into my 2018 season despite any of the hiccups caused by the surprise snow last weekend! When you plan a wedding for December in Georgia, you assume it might be in the 50s... but also possibly the high 60s-70s. You just never know! I DO know Alyssa and Austin did not plan on having a white wedding, but they handled it with such grace and embraced it all.... even toughing it out through portraits in the snow! I would say it was absolutely worth it, don't you agree? With the chilly temps and potential for icy roads, you would think the guest count would take a hit but when you have a couple as special and Austin and Alyssa, it's no surprise that they had a full house and a packed dance floor partying all night! These two were surrounded by the most amazing people on their wedding day that it truly felt like one big family affair!
Capturing my brides becoming mamas is such a special experience for me, especially with sweet Whitney! I am so humbled to be invited back into some of the most intimate moments in their lives and I love getting to share in these experiences! Unfortunately Scott couldn't join us for her newborn session but I cannot wait to go back to Macon and capture Greer as she grows! With her inquisitive big blue eyes, a belly that seemed bottomless and a head full of hair, I could have just eaten this sweet baby up. Whitney - you make this all look easy as you handle everything thrown at you with such grace. Thank you for letting me spend so much time with you guys! I know this Christmas will be an extra special one!
We traveled all the way to the promised land ...of bourbon... for Alyssa and Josh's engagement session and I am so glad we did! Cherokee Park in Louisville, Kentucky was like Central Park on steroids (minus the lost tourists). These two are getting married in Atlanta, they live in Las Vegas, but their love story first began in Louisville and they frequented this park when they lived there. It seemed only fitting to capture their engagement session in that very spot! Alyssa and Josh are both engineers, but not in the stereotypical way you might image. They are so fun and easy going... but they took direction like pros and didn't even skip a beat when I had them jumping across rocks in the middle of the river that would have surely been a chilly swim with any misstep. I was just thankful for a trip to visit family in Kentucky I don't get to see often, but it was the cherry on top to spend the afternoon with these two! ...Actually the extra cherry on top was the bottle of Woodford Reserve Alyssa and Josh gifted me! Did I mention I love these two?! Alyssa and Josh - thank you so much for traveling all the way to Kentucky for your engagement session! I hope y'all love these as much as I do!!
When I first met Carolyn and Greg, it was over a (few) bourbon old fashioned(s) and we talked for about 2.5 hours. I instantly knew I would love these two and couldn't wait for their engagement session! We planned the date and location and *shocker*, we started at a bar. Thankfully it was a beautiful bar in Ponce City Market - the Mercury! They have amazing cocktails and unique atmosphere. After they got loosened up for the shoot, which was totally unnecessary for these two, we headed to Piedmont Park where Carolyn and Greg had their first date rollerblading through the park! I still wish they would have brought their skates but I'd say the vibrance of the fall foliage made up for it! Carolyn and Greg are absolutely two peas in a pod and light up any room they walk into. You can't help but laugh and smile when you're around them because not only are they hysterical, they are just good people! I cannot WAIT for their big day next year!
Carolyn and Greg - thank you for taking time from your family over the holidays to capture these images! I hope you love them as much as I do!!
