Oh how I love the West Coast. Every time we travel there we question why we don't stay permanently!! Morgan and I had the opportunity to visit California for a bit of a work-cation (thanks, Madeline and Ben!!!!) and it also happened to fall on our anniversary! I could not think of a better way to celebrate 4 years together than to explore more of California's gorgeous coastline and have the chance to hang out with one of my couples! Our trip began in Huntington Beach for Madeline and Ben's engagement session. Morgan and I spent the morning before the shoot hanging out on the pier just people/surfer watching. It really is a completely different lifestyle in Southern California and we LOVED it! Madeline and Ben graciously hosted us during our time in the Huntington Beach area and we were so sad to leave but excited to venture to La Jolla as they had raved about it!
We stopped in Balboa and the "Fun Park" was a ghost town! It was kind of creepy but this sign totally cracked me up!
As we made the drive south, we made a few pit stops. One was on accident after Waze got a little "Wazey" and then again (on purpose) at Mission San Juan Capistrano after doing a few random searches for things to do in the area! I am so glad we stopped at the Mission because it was GORGEOUS! The architecture and history alone were amazing but the gardens and Chapel were just incredible.
We finally arrived in La Jolla and immediately went to The Taco Stand which was surely one of our favorite meals. Afterwards we dropped our stuff at our AirBnB and headed to the beach. We walked along the coast and were greeted by the sounds (and smells) of the sea lions. They were so close!! That evening we celebrated our anniversary at a local Italian restaurant that did not disappoint; after a lot of caprese salad, salmon pasta, fresh bread and lasagne we were full and happy!
For our last day in La Jolla, Morgan agreed to do a bit of a photo scavenger hunt. It may or may not have been my anniversary present. We started our day at an AMAZING breakfast spot called the Coffee Cup Cafe. We then took advantage of the quiet morning and explored La Jolla while on the hunt to check out some of the incredible wall murals around town!
Before we headed to our sailing trip, we stopped at the infamous In and Out Burger. Sorry Californians - not a fan. However, we WERE fans of our sailing experience! It was the perfect weather for a day on the water and we even got to take a turn driving the boat. We decided to end our time in California enjoying a bottle of wine and a gorgeous sunset. Did I mention this was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary?
